Dear friend,
_ a rest that goes beyond your body.
Key scripture: Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
So I have been thinking about Matthew 11:28 and 29 where Jesus spoke about Him "giving rest" in verse 28 and we "finding rest" in verse 29. It's quite confusing, but then I discovered that you can be given rest and yet you haven't found rest.
Sometime ago I posted on our social media platforms that you can only find what has been given, and that no matter how much you seek it, if you haven't first asked in the place of prayer and it's given you, you'll never find it. The same is true here. So I'll just take a short space to explain what both means.
*The rest that is given*
You know Jesus said come onto me all who are weary and burdened and I will *give you rest.* The question is, how does He give you rest by simply coming to Him?
*Rest is given you the moment He takes your burdens away.* He can't take your burdens without you coming to Him. *Every step you take towards Jesus reliefs you of your burdens. The closer you get, the lighter you become.* Being burdened and weary is a clear sign that you are far away from Him.
*The rest that is found*
After your burden has been take away, something else should most likely happen, which for most cases don't. That is why even though we have been given rest, so many of us haven't found rest. Lets look at it...
So Jesus said, "take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will *find rest for your souls.* This implies that the day he takes off your burdens, that day you are mean to take up his yoke. *Look friends, He doesn't put His yoke on you, you take it upon yourself by will.*
A yoke is a symbol of work, bond and restrain. So rest is only found when you work the works of God. So you can come to Him and leave without taking His yoke upon you, but just be reminded that you'll come back burdened.
*Hence, rest is given you when He takes your burdens off your shoulders, but rest is found by you when you take His yoke (His burden) upon your shoulders.*
*In as much as rest is given to you, it is not found for you. It is only found by you!!!
For so many of us, the Lord has taken our burdens away and has given us rest, but we still involve ourselves in the very thing that got us burdened in the first place. We still try to figure things out by ourselves. We are not stayed on Him because we haven't taken his yoke upon us. The yoke joins you with Him (John 15...abide in me and I in you, is only possible by yoking), it also puts a restrain on you. You can't go anywhere He isn't going, or do anything He isn't doing.
Thank God Jesus didn't say you'll find rest for your body. Because that's not a hard thing to find. Everyone knows just what to do rest the body, but very few knows what to do to rest the soul, which take deliberate effort and I just shared it with you...
To be continue.

Dear friend,
_ true rest is of the mind!
While I read this passage yesterday, it amazes me that the rest Jesus is talking about here has nothing to do with the body but everything to do with the soul. So I had to take out sometime to look at the word weary and burdened, then I discovered that a man can only be weary and burdened in the mind(soul) then he acts it out, but the body can't be weary is can only be weak.
*Your body can be the greatest limitation a man can ever have, it is not the source of a man's strength. Strength is gotten from the inside, so if you must be strengthened you must find rest!*
To be weary means: A feeling of being #Mentally fatigued. And to be burdened comes as a result of a responsibility, a cause of worry; that which is grievous, wearisome. So you see, Jesus wasn't necessarily taking about the human body when he made mention of rest, he was talking about the human mind (the soul). Worrying is a sign that you are burdened and it leads to mental fatigue.
Too many things have succeeded in keeping us down - worry, hatred, anger, unforgettable wrong done to us etc - Not because our body can't work anymore but because our minds (souls) are weary and burdened.
*The strength for your body is a by product of the strength on the inside.*
So I read several years ago of a man who was critically ill and was never going to walk again. Every morning he wakes up, he always would see himself walking out of the hospital with no one assisting him. He immediately stop telling himself that he won't be able to walk again, because when he was discharged he walked by himself out of the hospital. There's nothing you can't achieve with a sound mind.
True strength on the outside is only a result of strength on the inside
*True rest is a product of a sound mind*
If you don't get this, you'd sleep, wake up, go for vacation and come back, have all the money you could every want with all the servants and still lack rest. *So rest is not because you lack work, is because you lack God's work.* If it was about the work Jesus wouldn't say take my yoke, he would not give you another burden. He would just take yours and let you go. *The body can not find rest outside of the soul.*
*When and where is rest found?*
You don't find rest because of lack of work, neither do you find rest because you got a good and easy work. No. In fact nothing good is ever easy, you'd have to work hard, stay awake all night, sleep late, wake early and go through things you'd never have even thought of. In the midst of all these stress you can't afford to lack rest!
Rest is found when you find peace, quietness, gentleness and humility on the inside by of the reason of the yoke you carry and the burden you bear. If the yoke you carry and the burden you bear is not His yoke and burden you'd never find rest, you'd only find weariness and be burdened.
*What has God called you to do? What does He ask of you? It is only in it you will find true rest.*
*The day you seize from working your works, and begin to work the works of the Father, you get the fathers help. That day you'd find rest!*
Rest for the soul is found in Jesus.
