Dear friend,
_what is more important to you?

Key scripture: John 21:15
When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John do you truly love me more than these? "

In life you'll bear me witness that there are things that comes before others, people we love more than others, people who are more important to us than others. It's no crime for something or someone to be more important to you. But it is expected that if I am more important I should get more from you.

Last night during a prayer time, I believe I heard God speak and He said, "I am more important than these, but I don't get more." Things came up in my head that I may have given more attention to, more love and importance. But I believe He is saying the same to you this morning... "I am more important than these."

Love and importance

We love what is important, but we love more what is more important. It's perfectly OK for something or someone to mean something to you. It's not a crime at all to have people or things that are important to you. The question Jesus asked wasn't just a question of a test of love. He was sure Peter loved Him. Peter had been with Him all through His ministry, that at least was a sign, so how can you be asking me if I love you? I gave up my life to be with you. I think that was the basis for Peter's anger. We often want to stay around the person we love, and Peter had been with Jesus all the way so he felt that shouldn't be a question at all.

• He also felt that the fact I have stayed with you is enough sign that I have loved you, and the fact I have loved you shows that you are important to me.

Do you love me more?

I think Peter was missing the point. Jesus wasn't doubting Peter's love for Him which he thought he was. He only wanted Peter to know the extent at which he(Peter) loves Him (Jesus). How important am I to you Peter?

If you say I am important, is there another more important than me? If you say you love me, that's OK, but is there another you love more than you do love me. There's only one person we are asked to love with All Our Heart. If I am more important, show me more Love! You can be very close to a lady until she finds out that you love another lady more than you love her.

What are your "These things"

To everyone, our "these things" differs. What is important to me most definitely may not be to you. What I love and spend time with obviously may not be what you love. Jesus never mentioned what were they things, but Peter knew exactly what he was talking about - fish things.

If Jesus hadn't called Peter, he would live on and eventually die catching fish. He loved it and also enjoy eating it. So Jesus was sure that these things at least was important to this man, and that wasn't the problem. The problem was, it is more important than what should be more important?

Peter had to make feeding the lamb more important than catching the fish

Always make sure that what is important are the things that should be important, and what is more important are the things that should be more important. If not, you'll love less what you should love more!
