#Rethink: Are you the gift of God to someone?

Text: John 4:6-18

Dear friend, 

My thoughts concerning the Samaritan woman. (continuation)

4. True satisfaction comes from within not from without.

How often have you looked for satisfaction from outside? Maybe through your job, house, car, or even your marriage just like this woman. 

After Jesus introduced the living water to her, her next statement was, "you have NOTHING to draw with and the well is DEEP: from where would you get the living water?"

Sometimes you may have nothing to draw with, no one to support you, and no man to help you -just like the man at the pool in John 5:7

The Well might also be truly deep, making satisfaction look so far away and impossible. 

Jesus is saying the same thing to you that He said to the Samaritan woman. 

"The well you need to draw from is on your inside, not your outside. Stop looking for a drink from outside, and look inside of yourself."(Paraphrased)

5. Only the gift of God can truly quench a thirsty heart.

The gift of God is found in Jesus. He is the embodiment of every gift God has. In Him dwells the fullness of the gifts.

You have no business looking for a drink from a person who doesn't believe in Jesus. Because according to John 6:35b, it is he that believes in Jesus that shall never thirst. 

I can't quench your thirst if I am thirsty.

6. Men can only drink from your well, not your water.

What a lot of us Christians have today is called water and not a well.

Let me differentiate both:

Water is for your satisfaction only, while a well is for your satisfaction and also for everyone around you.

The purpose of Jesus giving us water is so that it can become a well in us. (John 4:14)

This makes that any and everyone who comes to us should always find a drink if they thirst. 

The water is Holy Spirit, and the degree to which we yield, obey, and fellowship with Him is the degree to which that water becomes a well.
