#Rethink2: what does it take to respond to God's call?

Text: 1 Samuel 3:1-16

Dear friend,

I'll start by telling you a recent story that means a lot to me.

I was laying on my bed one evening, thinking about something, and also having a conversation with the Holy Spirit. This was our conversation;

Me: I think you are the one leading me in this direction but I am not so sure.

Holy Spirit: If you think I am the one leading you, what then have you done about it?

Me: Nothing, because I want to be very sure it's you before I act on it.

Holy Spirit: That's the problem. You disbelieve yourself and your ability to be lead by me. It is wrong to think (believe) I'm the one leading you and not respond. Most times that is all you need, you don't have to be sure, just believe, trust and obey.

I had to share this story because Samuel from our key passage, also wasn't sure it was the voice of God he heard. He just had to believe.

I'm not saying we should just jump at everything believing it was the voice of God we heard, I'm saying, doubting your ability to hear from God can be a great hindrance to responding to Him.

3 -Ts to hearing from God.

1. Trust yourself to hear from God.

2. Teach yourself to hear from God - Be open to learning how to hear from God.

3. Trains yourself to constantly hear from God - Constantly practice the act of hearing from God.

How do I respond to God's voice?

1. With An Open Heart: The openness of your heart triggers the right response.

You have to do it God's way.

2. By Faith:

Now that we know the right response is "the God response" and that it is triggered by an open heart, faith then makes it possible for us to now respond.

3. In Total Submission: Submission to God and His way prevents our ways from interfering with His. It enables us to act in the direction of faith.
