GOD ISN'T IN THE BUSINESS OF GIVING PEOPLE THE DESIRES OF THEIR HEARTS
Voice of Eden (episode 240)
Thur. October 7th 2021
#Rethink2: God is not in be business of giving us the desires of our hearts.
Text: Psalm 37:4
Dear friend,
My job today is to give you the definitions of the words Delight and Desire and show you 3 ways you can make Jesus your delight.
Note: don't continue reading this letter if you haven't read the previous one.
Remember this: God wants us to desire Him first then we can desire what He desires.
Delight – Now we know that this verse is not about getting what you want, at least not until what you want has been transformed by what God wants. But that still leaves us with a question;
How do we do that?
What does it mean “to delight in the Lord”? What steps do I take? How does this happen?
The root of this word (‘anog) means being soft and delicate, to enjoy, seek your happiness from, and it means dainty (honor & esteem)
Desire - The root word (šāʾal) means to "ask". The overwhelming context of šāʾal is not about wish fulfillment but about those things God alone can supply.
This means you should cease desiring(asking) the things you can do for yourself and start desiring(asking) the things only God can do for you.
3 ways you can delight in the Lord (Isaiah 58:13b-14a)
1. Not going your own way: At each point where you have to decide what way to go or what direction to take, stop and ask the Lord to guide you.
Never insist on your way, by doing this, you honor the Lord.
2. Not engaging in your pleasure: What does pleasure mean to you? If Jesus isn't the place you find your highest pleasure, then you need to start sending more time with Him.
Don't go outside God to seek pleasure.
By doing this, you learn to enjoy Him and seek your happiness in Him.
3. Not speaking your word. This seems like the hardest thing to do. How many times have you stopped yourself from speaking, and ask Jesus what He would have you say?
By doing this you esteem the Lord.
Shalom
