PRAY WITH ME: If you must pray, pray right.

PRAY WITH ME:

Dear friend,

There are so many things we do that we seriously need to consider the reason why we do them. Because the motive changes everything. If our motives are not right then we either need to redirect the motives or maybe we just don't do those things anymore just so we can take sometime to get our motives right. Remember I said last week, "the who is not as important as the why"- in most cases, not all cases.

In my letter to you today, I want us all to check the motive behind why we pray. Most times, the reason why some of our prayers are really never answered is simply because we pray with the wrong motives.

Your motive has to be right if your prayer to Jesus must be answered.

We cannot over emphasize the power of prayer. However, we should not think we can use prayer for our own selfish interest. God cannot be mocked, neither can He be deceived by anyone. He sees what you may not be able to see even if it has to do with you. Scripture says, HE searches our heart and examine our motives...(1 Chronicles 28:9b).

Let me share briefly how we can know that our motives are not right when we pray, then in my next letter I will tell us how to set it right.

How motives are not right when:
1. Our prayers are only about us.
Most times the reason why we pray is only because we are in need. But if your prayer always resolves only around you, then your motive most likely is wrong. I would advise you take more time to pray for others...I'll talk more on that on my next note to you.

2. We pray to prove a point.
You know most of us think we can impress God by how long or how often we pray. We think God is just happy with us because we prayed longer than normal today. Every prayer done out of an eye service either to God or man is wrongly motivated.

3. Our prayers are only for warfare:
Jesus did not only teach us to pray when there is a battle to fight. Our prayer will be one sided if we pray only when we need someone to die or when you need them to pay for the evil they have done to us. In fact, scripture did not ask us to war against people, but according to 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, the war is against our motives (imaginations and thoughts).

4. Our prayers are not in accordance with the will of God.
This one for me is the most important. One way we can know and accept the will of God is by studying God's word. Remember I told you the difference between reading and studying his word. You cannot study without taking notes. When we know God's will, it changes the way we pray and our approach to life.

Shalom
