Key scripture: Matthew 4:4 NLT
People need more than bread for their life, they must feed on every word of God.
Dear friend,
One way to defeat the lies of the enemy is by knowing the truth and believing it. Knowing the truth is very important when it comes to identifying a lie. The enemy's hands are tied when he knows that we know that he is lying to us, and we cannot know that he is lying when we do not know what the truth is. It is very easy to convince a person who knows very little of the truth about anything.
If we must be able to stand against every lie and trick of the enemy, we must abide/live with the truth. I'll tell you how.
1. Learn to assimilate the truth.
It is not enough to just believe the Bible; we must fill our minds with it so we can be transformed by the truth. There are five ways to do this: receive it, read it, research on it, remember it, reflect on it.
Receive: It is important we learn to receive God's word, and not think it is for another person or that we know this already. Every word of God that comes to you is for you (except God directs you to tell it to another). If you do not receive His word, you cannot read it with an open heart, research on it, remember it or even reflect on it.
Research: It is studying God's word. The difference between reading and studying the Bible involves asking questions of the text and writing down your insights. The secret of good Bible study is simply learning to ask the right questions.
Remember: Our capacity to remember is a gift from God, and we need it after studying his word. If you cannot remember it; you cannot apply it. Your memory is like a muscle, the more you use it, the better it becomes. Review, review and review again...that is how you memorize scripture.
Reflect: It is meditating on God's word. Meditation is focused thinking. It takes serious effort and it is not so easy to come by. Just select a verse and go over it in your mind over and over again. If you can worry then you can meditate.
2. Walk in the truth you now know.
Reading, researching, remembering and reflecting on God's word are all useless if we fail to walk in the truth we now know.
All of these is simply so we can know the truth and walk into freedom. The freedom that God's word offers to everyone of us.
