_why do I have emotions

Key scripture: Matthew 14:14
And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

Dear friend,

It has been a thing of great concern; why do we have  emotions? Alot of us don't know why God made man an emotional being. So we find it a little difficult to express them or apply them rightly. Emotions play a critical role in how we live our lives, especially as Christians, from influencing how we engage with others in our day to day lives to affecting the decisions we make. By understanding some of the different types of emotions, you can gain a deeper understanding of how these emotions are expressed and the impact they have on your behavior.

It is important to remember, however, that no emotion is an island and no emotion is without a reason or purpose. Instead, the many emotions you experience are nuanced and complex, working together to create the rich and varied fabric of your emotional life. We must learn not just how our emotions works but how to control them intelligently. Don't forget, God made us with all of these emotions, but it's our duty to learn how to manage them, subdue them where necessary and also channel them rightly. Without doubt, certain emotions are harmful and shouldn't be nutured. For example depression, pride, guilt, shame etcetera.

You don't have to act like you feel. One thing we must learn to do is differentiate rightly which emotions we are to act on and which we are to ignore. Because we are often emotionally driven but not all emotions should drive us. God's Spirit teaches us how to act above the way feel. In as much as He chooses to lead us by our feelings sometimes, other times, we are being instructed to act in the opposite direction of what we feel.

There are many different types of emotions that have an influence on how we live and interact with others. At times, it may seem like we are ruled by these emotions. The choices we make, the actions we take, and the perceptions we have are all influenced by the emotions we are experiencing at any given moment. There is nothing wrong with being lead by your emotion, just ensure that the emotion is right, true, sincere, admirable and worthy of praise. Jesus from the scriptural passage above was moved (lead) by compassion. God also leads us by our emotions (sometimes).

Emotion is a subjective state of mind. What goes on in your mind creates the emotional feeling you have. If you must get them right then you must think right.  (Phil 2:5). Emotions can be reactions to internal stimuli (such as thoughts or memories) or events that occur in our environment.

Emotions are not the same thing as moods. A mood is a state of mind that predisposes us to react a certain way. For example, someone in a low mood is more likely to feel irritated when they trip on a rock. Someone in a good mood is more likely to feel amused by the incident. In general, emotions are reactions to an event, while moods are present before and throughout the event.

Emotions by themselves are neither good nor bad. They are simply reactions. However, the way we act (or don’t act) on our emotions can strongly affect our well-being. God wants us to live a healthy emotional life, and to achieve that you must first cultivate a SOUND MIND (Phil 2:5)
