#Give thanks
_ thanks is first given
Key scripture: 2Cor 4:15
All this is for your benefit, so that the Grace that is reaching more and more people may cause Thanksgiving to overflow to the grace of God.
How often do you give thanks? The car, the clothes, the money, the time...you give to God and His work, are they just a form of sowing and reaping, or are they a form of Thanksgiving? I took some time to think about this and clearly saw that thanksgiving should be continual not occasional simply because it is an act of worship unto God.
*What exactly are you permitted to give thanks for?*
What do you give thanks for? Whatever you give thanks for, make sure it reflects the goodness of God. We may have some things listed out and waiting to see them happen, else our heart won't be thankful. *Is Thanksgiving only a product of a good done? It can also be a product of a good yet to be done.* Thanksgiving goes beyond just the good done. The Bible says "In everything give thanks." It implies that, thanksgiving should not be hindered by the bad happening. In the bad situation give thanks for the good God has done and for the ones He will do through whatever looks bad.
Since Thanksgiving should not be done occasional but continually, then we need to always have our eyes fixed on the goodness of God irrespective of whatever is happening around us. I said, your heart can not be full of thanks when you eyes are fixed on the problem. *If you believe God is good then everything you do should be in response to His goodness*
*Thanksgiving multiplies grace*
Remember the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand? The bread multiplied soon after He gave thanks. *For everything you receive thanks should be given in return.* With this in mind, everything you give back to God (the car, cloth, money, time etc) should be a form of saying thank you for the things you have received. And the thanks you give, multiples the things you have received.
I had a conversation with a friend yesterday, and he said he feel giving to God (whether money or anything) should not be done because want to get a return or reap a harvest. And I get his point of view. *Every giving to God should be a Thanksgiving.* You don't have to go to church, dance and call friends for it to be a thanksgiving, all I am saying is, everything you give unto God, should be a form of saying thank you for the things you have received from Heaven.
*What are you thankful for?*
What exactly are you giving thanks for? Remember, you can not give thanks for nothing. Jesus thanked the Father because He knows He hears Him (that's strange). And grace (life) was made available because He gave thanks even while His friend was laying dead. *You may be thinking I can't give thanks for that, it's too little...! Recall, the five loaves feed five thousand because one man gave thanks.*
Note: You don't thank God for a bad situation (the death of a loved one or a car accident), you thank God for His goodness even in the seemingly bad situations. *Some of the dead things we cry about would receive life if we would start by thanking God for His goodness.*
*So in what areas have you seen the goodness of God?* Take some time to think about it and give thanks in return.
