Dear friend,
_ Not everything is stew!
Key scripture: Gen 25:31-32
Jacob replied, "First sell me your birthright." Look, "I am about to die," Esau said. "what good is the birthright to me?"
This passage has been in my heart for a while now, and I think it's time we talk about it. Esau was willing to let go of his birthright because of his apatite. While growing up, I had always thought the food was so sweet and the smell Esau couldn't resist so he had to make the exchange. But now I got to see that the exchange had very little or nothing to do with the stew but the lust, apatite or hunger of a young man. But without any doubt Jacob was a good cook. You could immediately tell by the kind of stew (Lentil Red Stew) he was preparing. Maybe that day he was just trying a new recipe. He himself didn't even know how it would taste.
*Birthright for a plate of Lentil Red Stew*
Looking at the name of the stew alone would make a man ready to empty his purse just to taste it. The devil really knows how to make it look better than it taste, just so we can make the exchange. The offer never comes looking unattractive. It will always be pleasing to your eyes. If the enemy knows you like short black girls, he won't send you talk fair girls. He would spend years studying a man just so he knows so well wha attracts the man.
Some questions kept running in my mind about the incident between Esau and Jacob, Like;
Did Jacob know Esau would come back hungry? Was he preparing the food to trick Esau into selling his birthright? Did he make that particular stew because he knew Esau wouldn't say no to the offer? How long has he been planning this? Or did it just happen to be that Esau was hungry and Jacob was cooking?
Whatever the situation was at that time, Esau couldn't resist the offer, simply because
1. He felt like he would die if he didnt do it. (the feeling was too strong)
2. He didn't value what he had.
*In the face of every lust, what we have loses value to us*
Your virginity suddenly loses value to you. Your integrity, your principles, your values...all suddenly loses value in the face of lust. You don't see them as anything to hold on too the moment you walk or act in lust. *Note that lust always comes with an instant gratification.* The satisfaction doesn't last longer than the act. In other words, as soon as the act is over, so it the satisfaction. Only God can give you a long lasting satisfaction.
*Oh that feeling...*
Too many times in the face of lust it feels like we would die if we don't act in its direction. Especially when the desire has a firm grip on us. We feel as though we can't say no to the feeling. Esau also felt that way, that was why he could give away his honor and position for a plate of stew. There's grace to say No. And after you say no guess what? You won't die!!
*Everything is not stew*
Everyday we see the same thing happen. A guy feel like he'd die if he doesn't have sex. He has no control over himself at the rising of his hormones, so he settles for a lentil stew. Both of them in a relationship can't hold body, so they just get a plate of stew. The girl doesn't see a reason to fail so she gives into the demands of the lecturer, he/she doesn't want to get fired from the office, so they buy a quick plate of stew...Listen friend, there is a better way to live and feed.
*Be very careful of anything you can get quick.*
Quick sex, quick money, quick satisfaction, quick results, quick entrance, quick food, quick growth....there is always something more valuable than you can see always attached to it. Sometimes is your health, that's why you must eat healthy. Sometimes your values, your future, your family or dreams.
_Soon you'd realise how much you have lost because you kept going for a fast food._
Keep growing
