Dear friend,
_ Where do you find gratification?
Key scripture: Gen 25:31-32
Jacob replied, "First sell me your birthright." Look, "I am about to die," Esau said. "what good is the birthright to me?"
For me it has been an exciting time just thinking and writing about the story of Esau and his brother Jacob. Reading that passage, too many people will say, "I can never be that's stupid to make that exchange." Really! Let me help us understand what happened that day.
*Esau didn't really make any tangible exchange, but everything was taken from him*
Esau never gave Jacob anything he could hold or touch, he only said a word, but that was everything he will ever have. I kept thinking and then figured that most likely Esau came back with a kill from his hunt. The Bible called him a skilful hunter! So the best thing he would have done was say to Jacob give me a stew for a big meat (maybe the best of my kill).
*Some of the things we do in search of satisfaction doesn't take anything tangible from us but it takes something precious from us*
After man fell, he then had a void, a longing, an emptiness and longs to find satisfaction. But the sad thing is, he was able to find satisfaction elsewhere asides his source. And those satisfaction can only last so long.
*True and lasting satisfaction can only be found in God*
Most times we go so far as to get married, just so our spouse can give us that satisfaction. The truth is;
*If God doesn't satisfy you, nothing will! not even your spouse.* You will end up draining your spouse because you are expecting something from them that they can't give. _Satisfaction is too much to expect from any man._
*The most expensive gifts are not tangible*
That was the thing Esau failed to understand. Sometimes it's just as simple as a promise you must keep. It's just 5 minutes time of sexual pleasure, just 2 minutes spent injecting yourself...so we feel we are not making any exchange because we are not giving anything big in turn, only to later realise that we gave everything back.
*Don't despise what you have*
Esau despised his birthright, so he could give it out for stew. Don't despised your body, your value, your integrity, your self respect...dont despised what you have. Don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who lives in you? Why share with a man who is not your husband or a woman who is not your wife? _Whatever you despise, you lay off without a second thought_
*Be careful what you give to get what you want*
listen friend, if it wasn't valuable, the enemy wouldn't be asking for it. Be careful what you give to get what you want. Some things are worth our lives but others are not at all. Some things are worth our time but some are not. Some things are worth our attention but some aren't. Some things are worth our money but some are not... I could go on and on!
In your search for love, peace or happiness (satisfaction), don't go too far, it's all in Jesus, and He is closer to you than you can ever imagine. Only open the door of your heart and let Him in
If Jesus is your satisfaction, then He becomes all you'd ever need.
