Dear friend,
_ Everything was paid for!
Key scripture: 1 Peter 1:18-19
Knowing that you were ransomed...not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
If there is one thing I want to achieve after you have read this post, is to make you come to the understanding that your debt has been paid for in full. Not even a dine is left out. But it always starts with a knowing. Knowing now that you are debt free, how ought you to live your life?
If there's one thing the enemy fights the most, it is keeping you from knowing what you ought to know. But if there's also one thing God wants for you, it is to bring you to the place of knowing. Were you now know that your sins are paid for, were you now know that you are no longer a slave to sin, were you now know that your dominion has been restored, were you now know that no devil is big enough to keep you down, were you now know that God love you dearly, were you now know that God is not mad at you...
*If there's something you must know, let it be the truth*
I think we are eager to know what someone has said about us than what God has said about us. Most times I have to remind myself that if what I heard is not what God has said, then what I heard is a lie no matter how true it may seem, and I choose not to believe it. *It is so much easier for you to know a lie when you have known the truth, than for you to know the truth when you have known a lie.* There's absolutely nothing wrong in knowing a lie, but the problem is you can't know it's a lie without knowing the truth. Because when people lie they lie to be true. Nobody lies so he/she can be caught to be telling a lie.
*If there is anything you must believe, let it be the truth*
Then I found out that Truth is not just a word we hear or speak. Truth is a person. Truth is not what we tell, it's who we are. Jesus is truth and we strive to be like Him daily. In the midst of our conversation, Jesus suddenly has a foothold when we speak the truth.
So let's look into the few things I listed on Monday about what you need to know.
1. What were you ransomed from? (Verse 18)
We have been ransomed from the useless (fruitless) way of living. Jesus didn't just paid for our sins, He paid for our life. In other words we were ransomed from self. Some years back, I heard someone say that the root of all sin is selfishness. To be selfish means Holding one’s self-interest as the standard for decision making or
having regard for oneself above others’ well-being. Everything about self is what Jesus came to ransom us from. That we may no longer live for self but for Him.
2. What was the ransom? (verse 19)
A ransom is a sum paid for the pardon of some great offence and the discharge of the offender. The ransom must be equivalent to OR more than the offence, to be able to discharge the offender. He didn't pay with money or any currency known to man. The ransom was His blood!!!
If we understand the power in His blood then we know that the ransom can't be undone or paid back. No amount of sin, pain, poverty, brokenness...not even death is beyond the reach of the blood. The blood is the greatest price paid! It reaches you in the deepest darkness!
3. Who ransomed you? (verse 19)
The Christ ransomed you. Not by a man but by the Christ, the Messiah, the saviour...that should tell you how sure and ever lasting the ransom is.
I'd stop right here, so I don't keep writing on and on. *For me, it is true relieve to find out that my sins wasn't just paid for...the blood covers more than just my sins, it's covers my entire life.* And because everything has been paid for, I don't need to pay for them again!!! Likewise you!
