Dear friend,
_On your cross is where you die.
Key scripture: Mark 8:34
...He said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
The message of the cross is something we can't over emphasis. It is a mystery yet to be understood by many. The Bible says to those perishing it is folly. It is a thoughtless action considered to be foolishness. How can someone carry the cross on which He would be crucified? And how exactly can the death of one man reconcile the entire human race back to the Father? How can His death bring forgiveness of sins?
My concern today is not about the cross of Jesus the Christ (we would talk about that soon), my concern is, the cross of Amaechi (put in your name). Because the cross of Jesus was shaped and designed for Him alone. It was structured in such a way that he would fit in. The same is true for you.
*You can't come after Jesus with Self intact, and you can't follow Him without a Cross*
Jesus said is anyone would come after me, he must first deny himself, take up #His cross and follow. It is important we understand the place of self denial in coming after Jesus and the place of the cross in following Him. When you come after someone, you don't watch/see the person. The person must have come and gone, then you arrived. But when you follow, you watch/see the person and walk behind or sometimes beside, but not before. You truly can't come after Jesus and do the things He did if you haven't denied self. Because everything He did was truly selfless. And the reason why you follow Him is so that daily you would crucify self.
*Self denial is not enough, the ultimate goal is self crucifixion*
You can't crucify what you haven't first denied. For Jesus, someone had to deny Him for Him to be crucified (Peter did). Your cross was made in such a way that you would be able to carry it alone. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be heavy, but there's strength given for your cross. If you can't carry it, then I believe it's not yours at all. We must all understand that the cross we carry is so we can die to self. Everything that feels like a cross in your life right now, that God has allowed is so self can be crucified on it. *Before any man is glorified, self must first be crucified.* Everything about me me me must die. When self dies you no longer live for you. Someone said the root of all sin is selfishness, and I agree.
*Can you carry that cross, until you die to self?*
Self will keep coming up if only what you have done is deny it. The problem here is that, too many of us are not willing to endure the pain of the cross until self dies. We follow for only as long as we can, and suddenly let go when tired. Remember your cross is not a weekly affair, or monthly, it is daily!!!
The day you make a decision to follow Jesus, that day you find your cross. And your cross is not a heavy burden. It's the Lord's burden, and His burden is light.
Self must die!
